So!  I’ve been a big cagey in alluding to this special thing I’ll be doing very soon… but I feel like letting it leak out for you bloggie friends, in “secret”!

I’m going to be on Laura Stinchfield’s internet radio show “The Pet Psychic”!

I’m going on as a guest, talking about our local rescue group, the Coastal Animal Rescue & Education Network. (CARE) This is an amazing TOTALLY VOLUNTEER group that started from a single phone call – one woman who decided to do something about the dog situation in this town’s community and neighbouring communities on reservation (First Nation aka Native) lands.

For decades, the town and many of these surrounding communities have had populations of stray dogs and cats.  The stray dog situation in some communities had to be controlled simply by shooting the dogs when the population became too large or too sickly.  Getting shot is only one of the sad fates that could await these unwanted animals.

C.A.R.E. needed to get the permission of the community to do rescue work; fortunately, there are a lot of people both in the First Nations communities and here in town, who love the animals and want to help them.    Last year, they did the first of a series of spay/neuter clinics, and they regularly accept surrendered dogs brought to them by caring members of the community.  One day they got 24 dogs!  Dogs who are rescued / surrendered from our communities are transported to the nearest SPCA, which is two hours away.  From there, the dogs have access to vet care, foster homes and hopefully adoption.  And they’re spared the short, dangerous lives of running wild without a home, and there is no longer a need to shoot these dogs to control their population.

I offered to donate discounted readings and all of the funds paid for readings will go to the C.A.R.E. network to support their ongoing work.  I am excited about this chance to help out the local dogs, because it’s something I can actually DO.  I believe it is so important for us to all do what we can to create and support positive change in our communities and in the world.

I will be on Laura’s Show The Pet Psychic on Thursday March 14^th, at 12:00 noon PST.  I’ll post the full details when this whole thing goes official.

The Pet Psychic show is kind of a dream of mine, because I’ve followed Laura and I just love her and her work.  It will be amazing to get to talk to her about this rescue, and it’s awesome that she welcomed us on her show to talk about this, because it’s going to be a great promotion for the event.  Laura has a lot of fans and a really big audience.

Initially, I thought I’d donate a day of readings, but now I decided I would like to set a goal of raising $1,000 in a week.  I’m taking another week of vacation hopefully at the end of March so I can handle all of the readings I’ll be getting for this event, and I really think that we can do it.  The readings will be $40 for 20 minutes, and extra donations to CARE to help us reach out goal are so greatly appreciated.

I am also dedicating this fundraising effort to my cat in Heaven, Leo.
