reinCARnation!

Proof the Universe has a sense of humour…

Remember Karma Car? Our rusty red 1989 Toyota Tercel we sold back in January?
You can search the blog for “car” to find a photo of it.

Sweetie got a job at the art gallery in the next town over. Consequently, after cycling everywhere for six months, we suddenly needed a car ASAP.

Guess what we got? A 1988 Toyota Tercel!!!

HA!

It’s Karma Car II – the reinCARnation!

The great news is that even though its a year older than Karma Car I, it has no rust and 100,000 km less on the odometer. The sound system is modern, all the blinkers and wipers work and the bumpers are completely attached!

HUZZAH! Behold:

I realized today that perhaps the Universe gave us an identit-car so that we could be truly grateful for it. It’s not super fancy, yet it is much better than what we had, and we really needed it so that Sweetie can get to her dream job.

I am not being facetious when I said this is from “the universe”. It’s not like we can go to a used car lot to buy a car if we need one: no, you have to NETWORK to get a vehicle out here!

We were actually very lucky to get a car at all, particularly one that cost *precisely* as much as we could afford.

Yes, life is funny.

PS: my beautiful and amazing assistant Kitty has been creating and backdating posts for all the Channeling Erik guest posts I did; for those of you who are subscribed, it might look like you’re getting spammed. I’m sorry to flood your inbox! It’s a necessary housekeeping for the blog. Thank you for hanging in there!

    • Yeah, no news exactly, except that it doesn’t feel like the right time yet. I’ve been keeping an eye out, but the timing doesn’t really feel right.

I think they’re hanging our until we’re completely ready for them.

Meanwhile, I’m working on getting my cat Sunshine on to a dehydrated raw diet if I can get a good source… She’s been overweight for a few years and it makes more sense to get her completely healthy before adding new animals.

They’re probably holding back waiting for us to get all our ducks in a row.

  1. Shoot, shoot, shoot. I never even thought about the people who might get email alerts. I am so, so sorry for spamming your inboxes, everyone, but on the plus side, now you can find all of Kate’s Channeling Erik posts more easily and that’s a really good thing. 🙂 (And I’m slowly working to add tags and whatnot to the rest of the posts here to make them easier to find/browse, too.)

  2. Congrats on the “new” car! And to Sweetie for her new job, that is totally cool. I love Toyotas. My first car was a 92 Toyota Corolla and I cried when I sold it, even though the body was falling apart. The engine ran great. I remember the handle had broken off the inside passenger door, so passengers had to enter through the driver’s side and crawl in. And for some reason when I put down the passenger window, it also opened the door. I joked that it was like a escape hatch or I could dump out the passenger on a sharp curve if they pissed me off. Good memories.

    • This brings back such great memories for me, also. I had a 88 Corolla with 207,000 miles when I bought it. It had a sun roof that leaked when it rained. My passenger side door handle was also broken, so I had to crawl over the driver seat if my husband drove. This was fine until I was about 8 months pregnant and couldn’t maneuver into the passenger seat anymore. I cried the day it was towed to the junkyard. I have a 99 Corolla now, but it is not quite the same as that first car.

    • LOL! Yeah, these little quirks build up in the old cars and you get used to compensating for them. That’s hilarious that the window opening would open the door too!

In the old car, we couldn’t even roll the windows more than halfway down, so yesterday I was really appreciating fully-functional windows!
