I like the Canadian setting and cultural elements to this. I mean, obviously, it’s what you know, where you’re from. Parts of this excerpt seemed a bit rigid to me, like the train layout, but that’s just IMHO. I really loved the description of the sunrise. Reminds me of the hours long Technicolor sunsets/rises I remember from when I lived in Alaska. Thanks for sharing!

I agree about the train setup – I think at some point it will be better to have one of the kids “discover” the layout of the train.
Right now it’s like a rough sketch outline to form the image in my mind.
